Traditional Burundi Drumming & Dancing
The Burundi Drummers performing in Temple Bar Dublin for Culture Night September 2010
Burundi Drumming is a very old traditional style of Drumming which started around 1885 as a mass celebration to mark the successful resistance to the German occupation by the King of Burundi Mwezi Gisabo. The Drumming was exclusively performed at major royal celebrations, national or religious festivities.
Professional Drummers from Burundi have since performed in many countries around the world and are particularly admired by School Children worldwide for their energetic and colourful performances. The drummers will often encourage the children to get involved with their performance
The Burundi Drummers in Ireland was a Project conceived and initiated in 2007 by Joseph Ntidendereza and supported by musical friends, in particular by Fr. Frank Sammon SJ.
