Strongly
influenced by the Finnish members of the group, Marja Tuhkannen and Sirpa
Syrja The Polskadots take their audiences on a musical journey through
Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Russia. Led by the highly accomplished and
energetic Marja on fiddle, Cat O’Hora on 2nd fiddle, Sirpa Syrga on
accordion & vocals and backed by Eileen Healey on rhythm guitar and vocals
the Polskadots are frequently joined by Mandolin player George Norman.
Newest member, Sirpa has recently put her own stamp on the Polskadots’ repertoire with some beautiful Finnish songs, accompanying herself on the accordion, whilst Eileen Healy delights in folk music from Bulgaria and Cat O’Hara enjoys singing sweet and soulful songs from Macedonia. Altogether The Polskadots are able to take their audience on a trip around the Baltic States and across Eastern Europe into the Balkans. In the last 2 years The Polskadots have been impressing audiences all over Ireland with their versatility and musicianship and last year opened the Baltimore Fiddle Festival, later performing at the Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures in August 2006. |
