One of the few groups to be playing Zimbabwean dance music in Europe,
Harare comprises Kudaushe Matimba, Laurence Corns, Kenny Chitsvatsva and
Jules Faife.
Drummer
Kenny Chitsvatsva
and keyboard player
Kudaushe Matimba
both played in the famous Zimbabwean band The Bhundu Boys. Matimba has
also worked with such giants of the Zimbabwean music scene as Stella Chiweshe,
Joshua Dube, Jonah Sithole and Ephat Mujuru. Matimba and Chitsvatsva have
brought some of their Bhundu Boys influence into the Harare set, as well as
drawing influence from other Zimbabwean artists such as Thomas Mapfumo, Oliver
Mutukudzi, and The Four Brothers.
Corns
and Faife
have both served five year musical apprenticeships with mbira master Chartwell
Dutiro and Zimbabwean songstress Netsayi respectively.
The band's sound takes traditional Zimbabwean songs into the context of
electric guitar, bass keyboards and drums creating an electric atmosphere no
matter where the venue.
This London-based quartet are now planning to bring the sounds and energy of
Zimbabwean music to a wider audience. Watch this space...!
