Featuring the electric & acoustic guitar and Latin roots sound of Rumba and Soukous from all-Congolese band Motema and the big brassy and upbeat sounds of Afro-beat and High-Life from all-Nigerian septet Oleku.
 
Two very different styles of live African music from two of the best African bands currently based in Europe and now touring Ireland together.
 
 
Over the last 50 years Central Africa has built itself an incredible reputation for giving birth to many of the World’s greatest guitarists, and Congolese Niwel Tsumbu and his band Motema from Congo-Kinshasa are fitting ambassadors to carry that torch forward into the 21st Century. Raised on the traditional Soukous and Rumba music of his homeland Niwel began playing from an early age and went on to study both jazz and classical guitar.
 
Motema was formed in 2005 from the remains of Ireland's first 'all Congolese' band 'THE LACE'. Their core line-up of 5 all star musicians representing the pinnacle of true Congolese musicianship anywhere in the world today. Often involving guest singers & musicians, a performance by Motema will always mean 'it's time to party, push the limits and strut outrageously'

OLEKU FROM NIGERIA: Performing a very tight set of authentic Nigerian Afro-beat and Highlife, a genre of music very popular in West Africa.

Their full-sound defies the relatively small size of their band, with only 7 members they are about half the size of many Afrobeat ‘Orchestras’. Playing a mixture of their own songs along with covers of Femi & Fela Kuti numbers Oleku’s energy can be sure to rock-the-joint and get everyone dancing within minutes.
