BUY THE NEW SINEAD O’CONNOR/REPUBLIC OF LOOSE/DISCOVERY GOSPEL CHOIR SINGLE

The Discovery Gospel Choir, Ireland’s first integrated choir, have provided the backing vocals for a new Sinead O’Connor anti-racism single called ‘We people (who are darker than blue)’. The song also features the talents of Irish band Republic of Loose.

The choir will perform with Sinead O’Connor and Republic of Loose at the Meteor Music Awards, RDS, Dublin on Friday 15th February, which will then be televised on Saturday 16th February on RTE 2 at 9pm.

I am encouraging you however to buy the single on iTunes. To do so simply type in ‘We people’ and it will come up as the first song. Your support can help our efforts to get the single into the Top 5 in the Irish charts and raise the profile of the issues facing a multi-cultural Ireland.

For more information on the single and the choir see the various details below.

Many thanks - Philip McKinley

WE PEOPLE (WHO ARE DARKER THAN BLUE)”
NEW SINGLE BY
SINEAD O CONNOR feat Republic of Loose and Discovery Gospel Choir
AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD FROM SUNDAY 10TH FEBRUARY EXCLUSIVE TO ITUNES; AND ALL OTHER DOWNLOAD PLATFORMS FROM 17TH FEB.

Sinead O’Connor, one of the most iconic and influential Irish artists of modern times, made the decision to cover Curtis Mayfield’s searing diatribe against racism and ignorance for her recently released album ‘Theology’. As timely in Ireland in 2008 as it was in Chicago in 1970, this heartfelt plea to embrace cultural diversity still rings true.
Republic of Loose have had a massive impact on Irish radio over the past few years. Author and music lover, Irvine Welsh recently cited their inescapable hit ‘Comeback Girl’ as “the best song ever written” in the New York Times. They are recognized amongst their peers and critics as visionary and innovative music producers.
Both Sinead and Republic of Loose were approached to collaborate for the upcoming ‘Meteor Awards’ and decided ‘We People’ was the obvious track to perform. Everyone was so impressed with the outcome that they decided to release it as a single. Between them, they have completely reinvented the classic song. Sinead’s vocal interpretation is stunning and poignant, and is wrapped in a slick RoL production of catchy hooks, deft beats and a convincing rap from Republic of Loose frontman Mik Pyro. They employed the vocal talents of the Dublin-based, multi-cultural Discovery Gospel Choir and the results are quite beautiful.
‘We People…’ will be released on Sunday 10th of February, exclusively through iTunes; and then through all download platforms form the 17th of Feb.
You can catch the 1st exclusive live performance at ‘The Irish Meteor Awards’ on RTE 2 on Saturday 16th of Feb at 9pm

Choir members come from countries such as Haiti, South Africa, Republic of Ireland, India, France, Sudan, China, Nigeria, USA, Burundi, Northern Ireland, Cameroon, Australia, Uganda, England and Zimbabwe. The choir has an age profile of 7-83. The choir seeks not to be just a social reflection of Ireland today, but also a social projection of the way things can be between all the people of Ireland.

The Discovery Gospel Choir is based in St George and St Thomas Church of Ireland church, Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin. Formed in 2004, it has a strong social ethos to its performances, playing outside the Taoiseach’s office campaigning to ‘Make Poverty History’, in the Hardwicke Street Flats, at the MAMA Awards, for the PLUS campaign in Dun Laoghaire, in Mosney Asylum Centre and in Mountjoy Prison. The choir has performed a number of times on RTE television, on programmes such as ‘The Café’, ‘Seoige and O’ Shea’, ‘Make Dreams Come True’ and the ‘Late Late Toy Show’. The choir has performed in front of a packed Point Theatre, Dublin in July 2006 as part of the ‘Festival of Life’ and has also led the singing of the National Anthems in Lansdowne Road and Croke Park. In April 2007, the choir recieved news coverage all over the world for hosting the first ‘U2charist’ service in Ireland.

Omero Mumba launched the choir’s first CD, ‘Made to be as One’, describing it as “brilliant”. The choir was voted ‘Best Soul Music’ by the Dubliner Magazine in 2005. The Irish Times described the Discovery Gospel Choir as “exuberant”, “exhilarating” and “inspiring” and following a visit to St George and St Thomas’ Church, Archbishop Desmond Tutu said that the choir was “fantastic”.
